The B&W 702 S3 is the flagship floorstanding speaker in Bowers & Wilkins’ 700 Series : a 3-way bass-reflex design with a separate tweeter above the cabinet, a dedicated midrange driver, and three woofers, designed for those looking for a wide soundstage, deep bass, and superior detail at home without having to step up to the 800 Series. It is sold as a pair.
The 25mm Carbon Dome tweeter , decoupled and developed specifically for the 700 Series, moves the first break-up to 47kHz : a significant step compared to the previous aluminum double dome, benefiting the precision of the stereo image. It works in the Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing , milled from a single block of aluminum to resist resonances and featuring a longer tube load that makes the high frequencies more free and open.
Voices pass through a 150mm Continuum FST midrange driver with Biomimetic surround , decoupled from the cabinet so that the woofers' output doesn't disturb it. The Continuum composite cone avoids the abrupt behavior transitions of conventional speakers: voices and instruments come out neutral, transparent, and precise.
Down below, three 165mm Aerofoil Profile woofers , with a computer-engineered variable-thickness cone for rigidity where needed, work together with a new downward-firing Flowport reflex port configuration . The result is deep, articulate bass, with a frequency range down to 28Hz. How much power is needed to drive the 702 S3? Bowers & Wilkins recommends amplifiers of 30 to 300W into 8 ohms, with a sensitivity of 90dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms.
For a home theater system, the center channel indicated by the manufacturer is the HTM71 S3, which shares the same Tweeter-on-Top configuration.

Let's start with what doesn't change, because it's a lot. Both measure 430 × 98 × 314 mm, both consume a maximum of 15 W, and both have a coaxial digital output in addition to the RCA analog output.
