About the brand

Chario It is one of the best-known Italian loudspeaker brands, even abroad. In half a century of activity, it has linked its name to a precise design method based on psychoacoustics and to series such as Syntar, Constellation, and Academy.

The story of Chario

Chario was founded in Milan in 1975 by Carlo Vicenzetto and Mario Murace, who had already been experimenting with loudspeakers for a couple of years. The deed was signed in April 1975. The name unites the two founders: "CHA" from Charlie (Carlo) and "RIO" from Mario. Mario Murace is the design engineer. His method begins with psychoacoustics, that is, how the ear actually perceives sound, with attention to the physiological limits of listening and listening fatigue.

Over the years, the company has moved several times to larger premises and is now headquartered in Merate, in the province of Lecco. Since the 1980s, it has built an international distribution network, with good results especially in Asia and Northern and Central Europe. The speakers Chario They are designed and produced in Italy.

In 1986 Chario introduced WMT (Woofer Midrange Tweeter) technology. In this crossover configuration, the midrange operates on approximately one octave and overlaps with the woofer and tweeter. The goal is to control the distribution of sound energy and make the midrange more natural, without accentuating the presence effect.

The series Chario more notes

Syntar: The Syntar line debuted in 1989 and helped introduce the brand to a wider audience. In 2011, it was updated with new speakers and cabinets.

Constellation: The first version was released in 1998. The models were named after constellations: Delphinus, Cygnus, Pegasus, Phoenix, and Ursa Major. The series was very successful for its warm and defined sound, so much so that Chario today offers it in the Constellation MK2 version.

Academy: is the flagship line of Chario, with wooden furniture and in-house designed speakers. Today it continues as Academy S.

Hiper, Silhouette, Piccolo and others: over time the catalogue has also included the Hiper, Silhouette and Silverette series and the small speakers of the Piccolo line.

What makes a speaker recognizable? Chario

The most distinctive feature is Mario Murace's approach. Starting from psychoacoustics means designing with long listening sessions in mind: the goal is not to dazzle in the first few minutes, but to reduce listening fatigue and deliver a natural midrange. The WMT configuration is the technical response to this idea.

The second characteristic is construction. The speakers are designed and manufactured in Italy, and in the Academy line, the wooden cabinets and in-house designed drivers are the most obvious sign of this approach. The warm, clear sound that made the Constellation series popular is another element with which many enthusiasts identify the brand.
