Description

The Monster Cable Sigma Genesis 2000 is a long-discontinued low-output moving coil cartridge , highly sought-after on the used market by those looking for a high-end moving coil cartridge for their hi-fi turntable. It dates back to the era when Monster Cable offered a line of high-end cartridges alongside its cables.

The diamond-coated boron cantilever combines rigidity with low mass. The Micro Ridge stylus has a very thin profile, which tracks the groove precisely even during the densest modulations. The result is an extended response up to 75 kHz, with linearity within ±1 dB in the audio band.

The dual-structure body is light and rigid: the cartridge weighs just 4,2 g. It's therefore worth checking that the tonearm's counterweight allows for balance, possibly with a heavier headshell. Its medium compliance makes it suitable for low-to-medium mass tonearms.

What phono stage is needed for a 0,2 mV MC cartridge? With such a low voltage, you need a high-gain, low-noise MC phono stage or a step-up transformer suitable for an internal impedance of 4 ohms. The recommended load is between 80 and 100 ohms, with an optimal tracking force of 1,8 g.

What are DACs and Streamers and when are they really useful in Hi-Fi?

If you listen to music from Spotify, Tidal, or Qobuz through your computer or smartphone connected to your system, you've probably wondered if you're truly exploiting the potential of your speakers. DACs and streamers are the two digital components that…

What is a DAC and why does it exist?

DAC stands for Digital-to-Analog Converter. Its job is to transform the bits of a music file (the zeros and ones of the digital world) into an analog electrical signal that the amplifier can amplify and the speakers can reproduce.
