Description

The Rega Elex MK4 is a 72W per channel stereo integrated amplifier into 8Ω (90W into 6Ω) featuring Rega's award-winning Class A/B power stage . Power is delivered via a low-noise multi-stage linear power supply, with galvanically isolated digital and analogue power supplies. It will effortlessly drive even the most demanding loudspeakers.

The digital section is derived from the Rega DAC-R: S/PDIF receiver and Wolfson DAC , coaxial and optical inputs isolated up to 24-bit/192kHz and a discrete Rega-designed output stage. The integrated MM phono stage splits the RIAA equalisation into two stages and uses polyester capacitors in the signal path and polypropylene in the RIAA network.

Can you connect a subwoofer or a second power amp to the Elex MK4? Yes: in addition to four line inputs, there's a constantly active pre-out , capable of driving multiple power amps or subwoofers, and a fixed-level recording output , also useful for an external headphone amplifier. The front headphone output is muted, so it doesn't interfere with the signal when not in use.

The custom-built case, coordinated with the rest of the Rega range, acts as a heatsink. It features thermal, short-circuit, and DC protection, a motorized volume control, and an included mini system remote control. Rega offers a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

How to Match Amplifiers and Speakers: A Practical Guide

Choosing amplifiers and speakers separately is easy. Getting them to sound good together is another story. It's not enough to simply add their power ratings or cross your fingers: matching amplifiers and speakers follows precise rules, which have to do with impedance, sensitivity, and...

Impedance: The load the speakers present to the amplifier

The nominal impedance of a speaker — expressed in ohms (Ω) — indicates the electrical resistance that the speakers oppoThey match the signal coming from the amplifier. The most common values are 4, 6, and 8 ohms, but there are also 2-ohm (rare) or 16-ohm (vintage) speakers.
