About the brand

Teac, seventy years of recording and playback

Teac was founded in Japan in 1953, when brothers Katsuma and Tomoma Tani founded the Tokyo Television Acoustic Company in Tokyo. Its current name derives from the initials of the Tokyo Electro-Acoustic Company, the company with which it later merged. The first commercial product, the TD-102 reel-to-reel tape recorder, dates back to 1957, and for decades the brand was synonymous with tape recording: from the four-track reel-to-reel decks of the 1960s and 1970s, which brought multitrack to home studios, to the A-20 of 1968, which Teac itself claims was the first hi-fi-quality stereo cassette deck produced in Japan.

From this same experience, Tascam, the division dedicated to the professional world, was born, and in 1987, Esoteric, the group's high-end brand. It was in this context that Teac developed the VRDS (Vibration-free Rigid Disc-clamping System) mechanism, in which the CD is clamped onto a rigid platter of the same diameter as the disc: the disc remains flat and vibrations during rotation are reduced, resulting in more stable playback.

The TN-180BT is a good starting point for vinyl: thanks to its built-in phono preamp, it connects to any amplifier even without a dedicated input, and with Bluetooth, it can play on wireless speakers.
