The Sonus Faber Concertino Home is a replacement for the Concertino after the latter was discontinued. The Concertino Home is also part of the home theater series, where it comes together with the Sonus Faber Grand Piano Home, Solo center speaker and Gravis subwoofer as a package. Similar to the Sonus Faber Concertino, the Concertino Home is smaller and less boxy, with the front and rear panels sloping towards the inside of the speaker, whereas the first series was more traditional. The Concertino Home seems to be more suitable for placement on shelves, as it is shallower. The connection terminals of the second version are better, but there is only one pair that does not allow bi-wiring or bi-amping. The drivers are completely different, both the tweeter and the woofer.
The Sonus Faber Concertino Home version is not vastly superior to its older Concertino sisters, but it is not to be underestimated either. It has a precise point of view on music playback and is not obviously colored or distorted. Surprisingly, comparing the Concertino with the Concertino Home, although they are different in their interpretation of music, they give the same impression of no listening fatigue and refined, detailed reproduction. There is a slight edge in favor of the new pair, thanks to the better quality of their drivers. The Concertino Home is more detailed, precise and dynamic, but all this pales in comparison to the unmistakable style of the older models. Furthermore, older models, when positioned well away from walls, offer a deeper, rounder and more controlled bass and a great soundstage. The new Concertino Home are certainly no underdogs, but they are a bit eclipsed in these parameters. High frequency extension is quite similar, with a little more detail thanks to the new tweeter. Where the Home model suffers, in comparison, is in the bass range, which is deliberately less full, almost controlled, to allow for placement closer to the edges of the room or on a shelf, in line with their home theater orientation. However, this can be compensated for by the Gravis subwoofer. Older models, on the other hand, lose precision and speed in the bass and midrange if placed too close to a wall.
In summary, the Concertino has better tonal balance in all frequencies, better bass and midrange reproduction, a little slower but more extended and rounded, and a better and deeper soundstage. The Concertino Home series is more efficient, can be driven with more power, is more informative, more palpable, has a slightly forward but non-fatiguing midrange, and is easier to connect. Vinyl, thanks to its tonal balance, is a perfect partner for Concertino Home speakers. They are very versatile, a pleasure to use, impeccably built and a solid value.
