About the brand

Revox is the hi-fi brand born from the Swiss company Willi Studer, which had started its business in Herisau in 1948. The first tape recorders designed by Studer were released under the Dynavox name; the Revox trademark was registered in 1951, and the following year the first reel-to-reel tape recorder under that name, the T26, was released. Since then, the division has been clear: Studer for professional machines, Revox for those intended for enthusiasts.
The most famous model is the reel-to-reel tape recorder. A77, produced from 1967 to 1977 in over 450.000 units, transistorized and with a direct-drive capstan controlled by a servo. In 1979 the B77, with logical controls, direct traction and variable speed, flanked by the professional version PR99. Revox also produced a complete line of electronics: amplifiers such as the B250, with ten inputs, tuners and CD players like the B225, derived from the Studer A725 and A727 professional players.
Ownership has changed hands several times. In 1990, Willi Studer sold the Studer Revox group to the Swiss company Motor-Columbus, which split it up the following year. In 1994, Studer was acquired by Harman International, while Revox was sold to private investors and continues on its own, today with offices in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria and products dedicated primarily to multi-room and networked listening. Willi Studer died in 1996.
Anyone buying a used Revox recorder should pay particular attention to the parts that wear out with use: pinch roller, brakes, tape guides, and heads. New pinch rollers and other spare parts are still available for the A77 and B77, and the official service center for Revox and Studer is Revox Service AG.
Da Audiocostruzioni We offer used and vintage Revox equipment, from reel-to-reel tape recorders to electronics: the ones available are on this page. You can see and listen to them in our Carpi showroom or order online with shipping. For any questions, just email us.
