Active wireless speakers are speakers with built-in amplification and the ability to receive music wirelessly, via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. They're essentially a complete hi-fi system in two speakers, or in a single cabinet: no separate amplifier, no power cables; often, all you need is a power outlet and your smartphone. They're an excellent choice for the living room, study, desk, or second room, and for anyone looking for a simple-to-use system. The downside is less flexibility: the amplification and speaker are designed together, and you can't replace one piece at a time like with a component system.

Integrated amplification and active speakers

In active speakers, the manufacturer chooses a custom amplifier for the speakers, often with a dedicated channel for the woofer and tweeter and electronics that optimize their response. This allows for good results in small spaces. Others are single speakers, compact and easy to place anywhere, and some can be paired with a second speaker for stereo listening or a subwoofer.
