Meccaniche CD

A CD transport, also called a CD transport, is a player that simply reads the disc: it doesn't have a digital-to-analog converter and sends the CD data via a digital output to an external DAC. It's the perfect choice for those who already have a good converter, or an amplifier with a built-in DAC, and want to continue listening to their CD collection without paying twice for the conversion component. In this category, you'll find CD transports for all levels of systems, from compact models to high-end transports.

Mechanics and external DAC

Separating the transport and DAC allows you to upgrade the two components at different times: you can replace the DAC without sacrificing the transport, or vice versa. The transport has a specific task: to read the disc stably and quietly and deliver a clean digital signal to the DAC. The solidity of the transport, vibration isolation, power quality, and the care taken with the output circuitry are all important factors. If you don't have a DAC yet, you can choose from our DAC converters.

Digital outputs: coaxial, optical, AES/EBU

Before choosing a transport, check that its outputs match your DAC's inputs. The coaxial output, on an RCA connector, is the most common on hi-fi transports; the Toslink optical output is very common and allows you to connect almost any DAC or amplifier with a digital input; the AES/EBU output, on an XLR connector, is typically found on higher-end models. Some transports also offer dedicated connections to match the same brand's converters. If you also listen to SACD, check the product description to see which formats the transport can play and how the signal is passed to the DAC.

CD mechanics or complete CD player

If you don't have a DAC and are looking for a one-stop solution, a CD player with a built-in converter is easier to manage and takes up less space: find our selection of CD, SACD, and DVD players . A transport is the right choice for those who have built or want to build their system around a DAC.
