Onkyo

Onkyo

Onkyo is a Japanese hi-fi brand that was founded in 1946 in Osaka when Takeshi Godai, formerly of Matsushita Electric, founded Osaka Denki Onkyo; the name was shortened to Onkyo in 1971. The brand is known for its amplifiers, receivers, audio-video receivers, and CD players.
After the bankruptcy of the original company in 2022, the Onkyo brand was acquired by Premium Audio Company together with Sharp, whose factory in Malaysia still produces the devices today.
Onkyo's signature technologies include WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology), designed to deliver high instantaneous currents while maintaining an extended frequency response; the Three-Stage Inverted Darlington circuit, with low feedback and a trio of discrete transistors, used in amplifiers and receivers; and the VLSC circuit in players, which reduces impulse noise in digital-to-analog conversion.
The Icon Series, introduced at CES 2025, includes the A-50 integrated amplifier, rated at 110 watts per channel into 8 ohms with Dirac room correction, the P-80 network preamplifier, the M-80 power amplifier, rated at 130 watts per channel into 8 ohms with analog VU meters, and the C-30 CD player. The lineup also includes the TX-8220 and TX-8470 network stereo receivers, the C-7030 and DX-C390 CD players, and the Creator Series active loudspeakers.
