Description

The legendary MartinLogan sound

MartinLogan loudspeakers are renowned for their exceptional articulation, detail, and realism, regardless of the listening environment. Utilizing advanced thin-film technologies and controlled dispersion, MartinLogan delivers a unique and unparalleled listening experience unlike any other loudspeaker.

Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion® XT tweeter

The Gen2 Obsidian FMT XT tweeter has been upgraded with a larger motor to provide greater output and lower distortion. The FMT XT offers the most detailed and effortless sound in the Motion range with a 40% increase in surface area compared to our signature FMT. Outside of our legendary electrostatic speakers, these new tweeters deliver our cleanest, most detailed and accurate high-frequency presentation to date.

Folded Motion® Waveguide

After extensive evaluation of nearly 50 design options, the Folded Motion® waveguide shape was carefully chosen to harmoniously align with the dispersion pattern of the midrange drivers, increasing output. The waveguide ensures consistent sound quality regardless of the listener's position and minimizes unwanted room reflections. Proper waveguide design is essential as it helps control the dispersion pattern of the sound, ensuring that the sound is evenly distributed throughout the listening area and achieving optimal sound quality.

FAST Outrigger Feet

The Motion® range of tower models are designed with tool-free height adjustment using the included rubber feet or pegs, allowing the user to easily level the speaker for optimal stability on any floor. Additionally, built-in anti-vibration properties reduce energy transfer from the speaker to the floor, reducing distortion and coloration and providing more accurate and detailed sound.

Midrange reinforced in Nomex®-Kevlar®

The Nomex®-Kevlar®-reinforced midrange in the Motion® XT Series offers a perfect balance of lightness, strength, anti-resonance and anti-ringing properties for unparalleled sound quality. When combined with the Gen2 Obsidian FMT XT, vocal clarity, dialogue, and instrumental accuracy are unmatched at any volume. Seamless integration with Motion® XT CI products makes creating custom solutions effortless.

Aluminum bass drivers

The exceptional characteristics of aluminum make it a perfect choice

The F200 is a floorstanding loudspeaker designed for a wide range of applications. Its frequency response is 27 Hz to 25 kHz, with a maximum deviation of ±3 dB. Dispersion is 45° (vertical) x 90° (horizontal). Sensitivity is 92 dB, and impedance is 4 ohms. The speaker features a three-way crossover with frequencies of 300 Hz and 2600 Hz.

The high-frequency driver is a 1,25" x 2,4" (3,2 cm x 6,1 cm) Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion® XT tweeter, with a diaphragm surface area of 12,4 sq. inches x 1,75" (79,8 cm2). The mid-frequency driver is a 6,5" (16,5 cm) Kevlar®-reinforced Nomex cone with a cast aluminum basket. The sealed, non-resonant chamber format and one-piece cone construction ensure precise, distortion-free sound reproduction.

The three low-frequency drivers consist of 8" (20,3 cm) aluminum cones with cast aluminum baskets. The non-resonant asymmetrical chamber format and one-piece cone construction ensure precise, distortion-free sound reproduction. The speaker has a bottom-ported cabinet, weighs 86 lbs / 39 kg, and dimensions of 50-3/4" x 13-3/4" x 16-1/2" (128,9 cm x 34,9 cm x 41,9 cm).

The F200 requires amplifier power ranging from 20 to 600 watts and features inputs for custom connections with bi-amping/bi-wiring and 5-way terminals. The speaker is available in gloss black, walnut, and satin white.

About the brand

MartinLogan, the sound of electrostatic

MartinLogan is an American loudspeaker manufacturer founded in Lawrence, Kansas, by Gayle Martin Sanders and Ron Logan Sutherland: the company's name comes from their middle names. The brand has been associated with electrostatic loudspeakers and thin-film technology since its inception, and its guiding philosophy is summed up in the motto "Truth in Sound." Since 2019, the company has been owned by Scott and John Bagby, founders of Paradigm, and its electrostatic loudspeakers are produced at its factory in Mississauga, Canada.

Technologies: CLS, XStat and Folded Motion

The heart of the electrostatic models is the CLS (Curvilinear Line-Source) curvilinear panel, developed to solve the problem of high-frequency dispersion typical of flat panels: the horizontal curvature widens the listening area without sacrificing the lightness of the diaphragm. In the most recent models, the transducer is called XStat.

For its cone speakers, MartinLogan developed the Folded Motion tweeter, a thin membrane folded like an accordion that pushes air by compressing and expanding its folds. This technology brings the speed and detail of electrostatics to the Motion Series; in the Motion XT Series, the second-generation version has a larger radiating surface and is combined with Nomex-reinforced Kevlar midrange drivers.

The series

The catalog is organized into tiers. ElectroMotion combines electrostatic panels and dynamic woofers in home-sized cabinets. Motion XT is the pinnacle of the Motion family, Motion is the mid-range, and Motion Foundation is the entry-level model, bringing many of the brand's technologies to more accessible prices. At the top of the line is the Masterpiece series, the benchmark electrostatics.

The MartinLogans available from us

Among the electrostatic speakers you will find the new ElectroMotion ESL, in matte black and gloss black, and the ElectroMotion ESL X, also in matte black and gloss black, which adopt the larger XStat panel combined with two 8-inch woofers.

The Motion XT Series includes the new Motion XT F100 and F200 floorstanding speakers, the Motion XT B100 bookshelf speaker, and the Motion XT C100 center channel speaker. The Motion Series includes the new Motion F10 and F20 floorstanding speakers, the Motion B10 bookshelf speakers, the Motion C10 center channel speaker, and the Motion Stand 25 stands. The Foundation Series includes the new Foundation F1 and F2 floorstanding speakers, the Foundation B1 and B2 bookshelf speakers, and the Foundation C1 center channel speaker.

How to choose

An electrostatic speaker requires careful positioning: the panel also radiates backwards and must be placed at a certain distance from the rear wall, in exchange for a wide soundstage and transparency that are difficult to achieve otherwise. If the room allows, the ElectroMotions are the most direct way to hear the brand's signature; the ESL X is suitable for larger rooms.

If you need speakers that are easier to place, the Motion series offers the Folded Motion tweeter in traditional cabinets: the Foundation for mid-range systems, the Motion for a step up, and the Motion XT when you want the best in the family. The bookshelf versions work well in small rooms, while the floorstanding ones handle larger volumes and rooms. The inclusion of center speakers in each series makes it easy to build a seamless home theater system.

Floorstanding or bookshelf speakers: a guide to choosing

Imposing tower or compact bookshelf? It's the question every enthusiast asks at least once, and the answer is never obvious. The choice between floorstanding and bookshelf speakers depends on more than just budget or space...

Anatomy of a Tower: What Makes a Speaker Unique

A floorstanding speaker is built to stand alone, without the need for external supports. Its height—often between 80 and 120 centimeters—allows it to house multiple separate drivers: a tweeter for highs, a midrange driver for midrange, and one or more woofers for bass. This multi-way configuration offers more granular control over different portions of the sound spectrum.
