The B&W FS-600 S3 is the dedicated stand that Bowers & Wilkins has designed for the 600 Series S3 bookshelf speakers, namely the 606 S3 and 607 S3. It is sold as a pair, in black or silver finish.
The main difference compared to a universal stand is the direct-mount top plate . With the S3 generation, B&W added threaded metal inserts to the bottom of the 606 S3 and 607 S3. The included M6 screws connect them directly to the stand. This makes the speaker and stand a single unit: the cabinet doesn't slip or wobble, and vibrations are discharged to the floor in a more controlled manner.
The structure is made of steel throughout: the top plate, base, and uprights. The uprights are hollow and can be weighted with dry sand (the manual specifies silica sand). Adding mass reduces the stand's resonances and increases its stability. This results in a tighter bass and a more precise stereo image, especially at high volumes.
What's the right height for a bookshelf speaker stand? For most sofas and armchairs, a stand of about 60 cm brings the tweeter close to ear height for a seated listener. This is where the 606 S3 and 607 S3 deliver the most linear response and the most believable soundstage. The FS-600 S3 is sized precisely for this purpose.
The speakers come with spikes for carpeted floors and rubber feet for hardwood floors and delicate surfaces. The integrated cable management system keeps speaker cables neatly organized, a useful feature if the speakers are in the living room or part of a home theater system.

What is a DAC and why does it exist?
DAC stands for Digital-to-Analog Converter. Its job is to transform the bits of a music file (the zeros and ones of the digital world) into an analog electrical signal that the amplifier can amplify and the speakers can reproduce.
