The Utah 8 is a 3-way floorstander from Indiana Line's retro Utah series: 60 lb (27 kg), a 12-inch woofer—the largest the brand has ever used—a 7-inch midrange driver, and an aluminum-magnesium tweeter. Designed from the ground up, it introduces technologies never before seen on an Indiana Line speaker, such as DIRS damped internal bracing.
The 28mm tweeter has a aluminum-magnesium (Al-Mg) dome mounted in the waveguide 3D-Guide with corrector fase EQ-Ring, neodymium magnet with copper shorting ring and hybrid damping chamber, axial plus Radial Venting Chamber. The 7-inch midrange has a cone in Curv woven polypropylene, suspension Dual-Second generation Wave, die-cast aluminum basket and motor UHVC (voice coil shorter than the air gap) with large ferrite magnet, housed in a dedicated sub-chamber.
The 12-inch woofer combines a profiled polypropylene cone with a new Tri-Wave surround , which allows double the excursion of standard solutions without intermodulation distortion, and a motor with double ferrite magnets and a four-layer copper voice coil. It houses a 66-litre cabinet with two 75mm floor-firing reflex ports, tuned to 30Hz, while four damped rubber feet decouple the speaker.
The DIRS (Damped Inner Reinforcement System) absorbs vibrations from the woofer and midrange with elastomer pads and a multi-layer reinforcement structure, so the PVC-coated MDF cabinet remains inert and does not color the sound. The 3-way crossover uses air-core inductors, low-loss polypropylene capacitors, an LC cell for the highs and an LC-Trap filter on the woofer, with binding posts for bi-wiring and bi-amping . The grille is magnetic.
How big does the room need for the Utah 8? The manufacturer recommends rooms larger than 25 m². With 93 dB sensitivity and a 4-8 ohm load, they pair well with a wide range of amplifiers, from 30 to 240 W per channel.
