About the brand

Kenwood originated in Japan on December 21, 1946, when Kasuga Radio was founded in Komagane, Nagano Prefecture. In 1960, the company took the name Trio Island and in 1963 opened an office in Los Angeles. The name Kenwood was born specifically for the American market, created by William Kasuga by combining "Ken", familiar to American buyers, and "wood", which recalled wood and Hollywood. Only in 1986 The company officially adopted the name Kenwood Corporation: for this reason many vintage appliances are also found under the Trio brand.
In the 1970s and 1980s Kenwood produced receivers, tuners, turntables and amplifiers; in 1977 the KA series of integrated amplifiers was released, including the KA-9900Among the most ambitious electronics are the preamplifier L-07C and monophonic finals L-07M from the late seventies, 150 watts in class AB each, with large transformers and power capacitors.
In the 1980s the line Basic included separate electronics, such as the C1 preamplifier and the M1 and M2 power amplifiers; on some models Kenwood introduced the circuit Sigma Drive, which extended the amplifier's control all the way to the speaker terminals. A vintage review of the C-1 and M-1 pair described it as quiet, free of inherent coloration, and at home with difficult speakers. In the 1990s and 2000s, the brand became known primarily for its car stereos.
In 2008, Kenwood merged with JVC to create the JVCKenwood holding company, and since 2011 it has been a brand of that group.
Da Audiocostruzioni We offer used and vintage Kenwood equipment, especially amplifiers, power amplifiers, and receivers. The ones available are on this page. You can see and listen to them in our Carpi showroom or order online with shipping. For any questions, just email us.
