Description

The Gryphon Antileon Revelation Mono splits the new power amplifier of the Antileon series into two chassis: a pair of pure Class A monoblocks , sold as a set, with 180 W into 8 Ω, 360 W into 4 Ω and 720 W into 2 Ω for each channel. No global negative feedback , no relay on the output and a chassis weighing 90 kg per side.

Compared to the stereo version, each channel has a dedicated power supply: 670.000 µF of capacitors per power amp, double the number of those dedicated to a channel in the stereo, and two toroidal transformers.dali per chassis, in shielded, epoxy-damped, and suspended cases. The final stage uses high-current Toshiba bipolar transistors; the output impedance drops to 0,02 Ω and the THD+N distortion remains below 1% up to 175 W into 8 Ω.

How do you connect two monoblock power amps to a Gryphon preamp? Each chassis has a 10 kΩ balanced XLR input and a pass-thru XLR; the Green Bias can also be routed from the preamp to the first power amp and from there to the second, so both change bias together according to the volume. The outputs are two pairs of parallel binding posts, suitable for bi-wiring , for bare wire, 4 mm banana plugs, and spades up to 17 mm.

The bias has three positions: High puts the full 180W into Class A, Mid puts the first 100W into Class A/B, and Low keeps the power amp cool. In High, each chassis draws 500W at idle and up to 2.700W at full power, with a single IEC C20 socket for a C19 cable. There's also soft start, a 12V trigger, microprocessor-controlled smart protection, and upgradeable software.

Each final guitar measures 57 x 26 x 60 cm, has a constrained layered damped frame, and comes with tips and under-tips. Electronic design by Tom Møller, line by Flemming E. Rasmussen, built in Denmark.

About the brand

Gryphon Audio Designs is a Danish manufacturer of high-end electronics, sources, and loudspeakers. It was founded by Flemming E. Rasmussen, a painter and graphic artist, who had previously founded 2R Marketing, a high-end hi-fi importer in Denmark. Gryphon was founded in 1985 as an offshoot of that business; the first product was the Head Amp, a preamplifier for moving-coil cartridges, designed for personal use, which went into production after attracting interest at the 1986 CES in Chicago. In 1993, the import business was discontinued; today, the products are designed and manufactured at the factory in Ry, Denmark. In 2018, after 33 years at the helm, Rasmussen handed over day-to-day responsibility for the company to Jakob Odgaard.
The design choices are recognizable. The circuits are dual mono, with separate power supplies and transformers for each channel; until the Encore, all Gryphon amplifiers operated in pure class A, and even today some power amplifiers can operate entirely in class A, such as the Apex with the highest bias setting. The Diablo 333, Apex, and the Commander preamplifier forgo global feedback. The Diablo 333 delivers 333 watts into 8 ohms and 1.100 watts into 2 ohms, with the first watts or so in class A and 68.000 microfarads of filter capacitors per channel.
The integrated amplifier can grow with two optional modules: the DAC3, with ESS ES9039PRO converter, PCM up to 384 kHz and DSD512, and the PS3 phono card, balanced and dual mono, for MM and MC cartridges. The Apollo turntable, presented at the Munich High End Show in 2024, was born from the collaboration with Helmut Brinkmann and Ortofon.
For sale you will find the Diablo 333 integrated amplifier; the Commander, Essence Preamplifier and Helios preamplifiers; the Apex, Antileon Revelation, Essence and Hyperion power amplifiers in stereo and mono versions; the Ethos CD player; the Apollo turntable with the Black Diamond DLC cartridge and the Siren and Legato Legacy phono preamplifiers; the EOS 2, EOS 5, Trident II and Kodo speakers. The offer is completed by the Vanta and Rosso cables, the PowerZone mains filters and the StandArt stands.
The Diablo 333 is the perfect choice for those who want a single component: with the DAC3 and PS3, it becomes the centerpiece of a complete system, which simply requires the source to be added. Those who prefer separate electronics can start with the Essence pair and move up to the Commander and Apex, which can be connected with a dedicated cable so that the power amplifier's bias follows the volume. The Diablo 333 and Apex handle difficult loads well: the Apex doubles its power up to 0,5 ohms, a useful feature with speakers with low or highly variable impedance.
Heat must also be considered: a class A amplifier dissipates a lot of energy even when idle, so it needs free space around it and a suitable shelf, such as StandArt stands.
In our showroom in Carpi, you can listen to Gryphon electronics in the listening room and receive advice on matching them with your speakers. The same models can be ordered online at audiocostruzioni.com with shipping, asking us for advice first by email if necessary.

How to Match Amplifiers and Speakers: A Practical Guide

Choosing amplifiers and speakers separately is easy. Getting them to sound good together is another story. It's not enough to simply add their power ratings or cross your fingers: matching amplifiers and speakers follows precise rules, which have to do with impedance, sensitivity, and...

Impedance: The load the speakers present to the amplifier

The nominal impedance of a speaker — expressed in ohms (Ω) — indicates the electrical resistance that the speakers oppoThey match the signal coming from the amplifier. The most common values are 4, 6, and 8 ohms, but there are also 2-ohm (rare) or 16-ohm (vintage) speakers.
