Description

The Yamaha NS-800A is a 2-way bookshelf speaker that brings the tonal fidelity of the flagship series to a standmount format. At its acoustic heart is the new Harmonious Diaphragm™ , a membrane made of Zylon® and spruce and used for both the 16 cm woofer and the 3 cm dome tweeter. The result is consistent tonal color across the entire range, from vocals to acoustic instruments.

Spruce is the same wood used in the soundboards of Yamaha grand pianos. Zylon adds speed to the sound propagation and optimal internal dissipation. The result is a clean reproduction, with fast transients and well-defined harmonics.

The cabinet isn't just aesthetics. The structure is designed with the same vibration analysis technologies used for musical instruments, with targeted reinforcements to control cabinet resonances. Inside, the patented Acoustic Absorber and RS (Resonance Suppression) chambers , mounted behind the tweeter, cancel out unwanted resonances without suppressing microdynamics.

On the bass front, the Twisted Flare Port comes into play , the flared and slightly twisted reflex port that reduces the air noise typical of traditional bass-reflex systems. The response remains precise, with a dry and controlled bass even at high volumes.

The crossover uses high-quality components, with German-made Mundorf audio capacitors and a large-diameter woofer voice coil. The terminals are made of solid brass, shaped for a comfortable grip and secure tightening.

How do you pair a stand-mounted speaker like the NS-800A? With a nominal impedance of 6 ohms (minimum 3,8 ohms) and a sensitivity of 86,5 dB, it performs best with an integrated amplifier or stereo network receiver capable of delivering continuous power. The piano-inspired high-gloss finish makes it suitable for a refined listening environment, where high-resolution audio streaming becomes part of the décor.

Floorstanding or bookshelf speakers: a guide to choosing

Imposing tower or compact bookshelf? It's the question every enthusiast asks at least once, and the answer is never obvious. The choice between floorstanding and bookshelf speakers depends on more than just budget or space...

Anatomy of a Tower: What Makes a Speaker Unique

A floorstanding speaker is built to stand alone, without the need for external supports. Its height—often between 80 and 120 centimeters—allows it to house multiple separate drivers: a tweeter for highs, a midrange driver for midrange, and one or more woofers for bass. This multi-way configuration offers more granular control over different portions of the sound spectrum.
