About the brand

ProAc is a British loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1979 by Stewart Tyler. Before ProAc, there was Celef Audio, the hi-fi shop in Borehamwood, north London, where Tyler had already been designing his speakers in the mid-1970s. When he found superior speakers, previously used only in professional settings, he created a new brand and called it ProAc, short for Professional Acoustics. The first model was the Studio Three, a three-way speaker; around the same time, the Tablette mini speaker was born, still in the catalog today.
In 1989, the critically acclaimed Response series was launched, and in 1990, production from Borehamwood and Milton Keynes was consolidated into the Brackley factory in Northamptonshire, where each speaker is still hand-built and tested. Stewart Tyler passed away in June 2021, leaving the company in the hands of his daughter Zoe Tyler-Mardle and son-in-law John, who had worked with him for over thirty years.
Traditional ProAc construction features bitumen-damped HDF cabinets clad in real wood; ribbon tweeters, which first appeared on the Future series in the early 2000s, have since made their way to the Response series, where many models are available in two versions: with a soft dome tweeter or a ribbon tweeter, recognizable by the R in the name. The K Series, introduced with the K6 in 2011, takes its name from the hand-molded polymer-impregnated Kevlar cone woofers.
With us you will find the Tablette 10 Signature, an advanced version of the Tablette 10 with a new woofer and a frequency corrector. fase copper, and the SM100 Studio Monitor. The Response Series includes the DB1, DB1R, DB3, D2, and D2R standmount models, and the DT8, D20, D20R, D30DS, D30RS, D48, and D48R floorstanding models. The K Series includes the K1, with its dedicated stand, the K3, K6, K6 Signature, and the flagship K10. The range is completed by the Centre Voice center channel and Signature Black speaker cable.
The first choice is between stands and floorstanding, and it depends largely on the room. In a small room or with speakers close to the wall, the Tablette 10 Signature is the simplest solution: 30 cm tall, it can handle amplifiers from 5 to 50 W. The DB1 and D2 bring the same setup to a slightly larger space, while the D20, D30, and D48 are useful when the room requires more bass extension and more pressure. At the top is the K Series: the K6 combines two 165 mm Kevlar woofers, a 50 mm dome midrange, and a ribbon tweeter.
The best way to decide between a dome and a ribbon is by listening: the ribbon generally offers more air and detail in the high frequencies, while the dome has a softer character, which may be preferable with bright electronics or in reverberant rooms. Standard finishes, for example on the K6, include Black Ash, Mahogany, Cherry, Silk White, Natural Oak, and Walnut; Liquidambar, Rosewood, and Ebony are special finishes made to order.
In our Carpi showroom, you can listen to ProAc speakers in a listening room and evaluate them with the most suitable amplification. The same models can be ordered online at audiocostruzioni.com with shipping; for advice on choosing, email us with the room measurements and the system you use.
