QAcoustics 3050i: floorstanding speaker

The flagship of the new 3000i Series has a dual 165mm aramid fibre and paper cone that delivers exceptional bass extension and open midrange.

The magnetic grilles eliminate the unsightly fixing holes of grills with traditional fixing.

The mid/bass driver is a fiber made up of a mix of paper and aramid fibre. More resistant, rigid and at the same time with a very low mass. The result is less distortion and improved transients.

The 22mm tweeter is a coated polyester weave, cooled by fluid iron. A dual ferrite magnet system allows for greater airflow around the voice coil, suspension and inside the dome offering less distortion and better dispersion.

About the brand

Q Acoustics is a British brand founded in 2006 within Armour Home Electronics, a British company based in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire. The team of engineers and managers who launched it wanted high-quality speakers that were affordable for everyone, and the first product was the 1000 series, for stereo and home theater. Today, Armour Home also sells QED cables and Goldring cartridges.
Several technical solutions are repeated from one series to the next. The 3000c and 5000 series use P2P (Point to Point) internal bracing, designed to reduce panel vibrations and resonances, and continuously curved cone woofers. In the 3000c, the 22 mm soft dome tweeter is derived from the one developed for the Concept series, the brand's most sought-after line. In the Concept 300, the cabinet Dual Gelcore is made of three layers separated by a gel that never hardens and converts vibrations into heat; the Concept 50 towers feature HPE (Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer) tubes to equalize the pressures that build up inside the cabinet. The Concept 300 features the Tensegrity stand, a tripod made of aluminum tubes and stainless steel cables, also sold separately.
The 3000c series includes the 3010c, 3020c, and 3030c bookshelf speakers, the 3040c and 3050c towers, the 3090c center speaker, the 3060S subwoofer, and the 3030FS stands. The 5000 series includes the 5010 and 5020 bookshelf speakers, the 5040 and 5050 tower speakers, and the 5090 center speaker. The Concept series includes the 30, the 300, the Concept 50 tower speaker, and the Concept 90 center speaker. The M20 HD, M40 HD, and Q Active 200 active systems, the Q SUB80, Q SUB100, and Q SUB120 subwoofers, and the FS50, FS75, and Tensegrity stands complete the offering.
For a desk or small room without an amplifier, the M20 HDs are the most straightforward solution: they have onboard amplification, aptX HD Bluetooth, optical and USB inputs, but no Wi-Fi, so they're fine with a TV, computer, or smartphone. The M40 HDs follow the same idea in a floorstanding format. Those who already have an amplifier can start with the 3020cs, which reviews describe as detailed and with tight bass; the 5020s have a larger cabinet and weigh around 7 kg each, so they'll need sturdy stands and a little more space.
In a medium-to-large room, or if you want to do without stands, the 3050c and 5050 towers are the natural choice. The Concept 300 on its Tensegrity stand is the brand's most advanced standmount speaker, with a deep cabinet to take into account. For home theater, it's best to stick to a single series: the 3090c center speaker with the 3000c, the 5090 with the 5000, and the Concept 90 with the Concept, adding a subwoofer from the Q SUB series or the 3060S.
