The Luxman L-505Z is the stereo integrated amplifier that completes the Z series below the L-507Z and L-509Z, heir to the L-505, one of the best-known Luxman amplifiers. It uses the LIFES 1.0 feedback circuit , an evolution of the ODNF that does not return the original signal to the amplifier: the sound remains natural as in a circuit without feedback and the distortion in amplification is less than half compared to the past. The final stage is a parallel push-pull with bipolar transistors in class AB, 100 W per channel into 8 ohms and 150 W into 4 ohms.
Volume is handled by the LECUA , an electronically controlled attenuator in an integrated circuit version with 88 steps, which also manages balance without degrading the signal; the preamplifier output has a discrete high-current buffer to drive the power stage with energy. The power supply uses a 540 VA EI transformer and four 10.000 µF capacitors.
Can you connect a turntable directly to the L-505Z? Yes, with the built-in MM/MC phono stage with parallel first stage. There's also a balanced XLR input, tone and loudness controls, a Separate function for using the preamp and power amp separately (bi-amping or integrating with an AV receiver), and two headphone outputs: a 6,3mm jack and a 4,4mm jack with separate left and right ground. Large backlit VU meters flank an LED volume display; the aluminum remote control also operates Luxman CD players from 1996 onwards.
