About the brand

Magnat is a German loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1973 in Cologne by Rainer Haas, whose father imported English Goodmans loudspeakers to Germany. The brand established itself with the Log series in 1974; in the 1990s, the company moved to nearby Pulheim, where it set up five listening and test rooms and a Klippel laser measurement system. Since 2023, Magnat has been part of Premium Audio Company, the group that also includes Onkyo.
The brand's history is largely made up of loudspeakers. In 1979, Magnat introduced a plasma tweeter, without a moving diaphragm, and in 1981 an all-ribbon series. In 2015, the Cinema Ultra system was the first to achieve THX Ultra2 certification with a front speaker that could be used both horizontally and vertically, and in 2024 the new Signature Series arrived with the 607, 809, and 999 models. Amplifiers and turntables are a minor part of the catalog.
The Signature Series includes the compact 603, the 607, 809, and 999 towers, the Signature Center Pro II center speaker, and the Signature Edelstein, a two-way bass reflex speaker with a 25 mm fabric dome tweeter on a waveguide and an 11,5 cm woofer with a ceramic, magnesium, and aluminum sandwich cone, mounted on a solid aluminum front. The Monitor S Series ranges from the S10 B and S30 bookshelf models to the S70 and S80 ATM towers. For home theater, there are the Cinema Ultra LCR 100-THX, RD 200-THX, AEH 400-ATM, and SUB 300-THX speakers, as well as the ATM 202 Dolby Atmos module.
Among the active speakers, the Transpuls 800A has integrated amplification, a horn-loaded compression tweeter, and an HDMI input; the Monitor Reference 5A, joined by the 2A, combine amplification, Bluetooth, and an HDMI input for your TV. For installation, there are the built-in models from the Interior series, such as the IC 82 and ICP 62, and the outdoor models Symbol X 130 and X 160. Among the electronics, the MA 900 is a hybrid integrated amplifier with a two-tube ECC81 preamplifier, a transistor power amplifier, and an MM/MC phono input; the MR 780 is a hybrid receiver with ECC81 tubes, a DAB+/FM tuner, aptX Bluetooth, digital inputs, and an MM phono input.
For those looking for a simple system connected to a TV, the Monitor Reference 5A and Transpuls 800A are the most straightforward solutions. For a traditional stereo system, the Signature 607 or 809 tower speakers pair well with the MA 900, which also has an input for a turntable with an MC cartridge. In a small room, the Signature Edelstein is the most compact choice: Hi-Fi News suggests tilting it slightly outward to soften the treble.
For home theater, the Cinema Ultra Series is designed to the THX Ultra2 specification, intended for theaters where you sit at least three meters from the screen; in a smaller living room, the Monitor S Series, with the ATM 202 module and Alpha RS 8, Alpha RS 12, or Omega CS 12 subwoofers, is a multichannel solution with a smaller footprint.
In our Carpi showroom, you can listen to Magnat speakers and electronics in the listening room and receive advice on matching them to your system. The same models can be ordered online at audiocostruzioni.com with shipping, asking us for advice first by email if necessary.
