Description

The Triangle Borea BR04 are a pair of 2-way , passive bookshelf speakers with a front-loading bass reflex port. The French manufacturer presents them as the evolution of the BR03: the aim is to push performance further while remaining in a bookshelf format and in the philosophy of the Borea range, i.e. high performance at an affordable price.

The specimen is complete with original packaging.

The treble section is entrusted to a 25 mm EFS silk dome tweeter mounted on a waveguide , working in conjunction with a 16 cm woofer with a natural cellulose pulp diaphragm . The crossover cutoff is set at 3200 Hz and the declared response is from 44 Hz to 22 kHz (±3 dB). The front reflex port makes positioning near the rear wall less critical than with a rear duct.

What amplifier do you need for the Triangle Borea BR04? The manufacturer specifies a power output between 25 and 130 W into 8 ohms. With a sensitivity of 90 dB , a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a minimum of 4,6 Ω, they are an easy load even for low-power integrated amplifiers. Can the Triangle BR04 be bi-amplified? Yes: the double terminal block allows for both bi-wiring and bi-amplification.

The trade press, particularly What Hi-Fi?, has described its sound as powerful and full-bodied, with abundant bass: a suitable choice for those seeking fullness and dynamics in a standmount speaker for medium-sized rooms. The photos are of the unit for sale.

About the brand

Triangle was born in 1980 from the idea of Renaud de Vergnettes, a twenty-two-year-old Parisian who worked in interior design and quit his job to build loudspeakers. The first model, the 1180, was released in November of that year: a woofer cabinet separated by a pyramid-shaped upper module for the midrange and high frequencies, with Audax paper-membrane drivers. After starting out in a garage and then in the family home, the company moved to Soissons, in northern France, where it has occupied a purpose-built production facility since 2004. By the mid-1980s, Triangle was already producing its own loudspeakers.
The founder retired in 2006, when the company passed to the Decelle family with Marc Le Bihan as CEO. Since 2011, a new team has led the brand towards active speakers, streaming, and vinyl, without abandoning passive speakers. A team of 23 people now works in Soissons, designing products and supporting customers.
The technical common thread is natural cellulose membranes and horn-loaded tweeters. The Borea series combines a partially horn-loaded silk dome tweeter, with a central cone to widen dispersion, with a natural cellulose paper midbass derived from the Esprit EZ line; the Comete EZ and Antal EZ instead feature a titanium dome tweeter with a compression chamber. The Solstice series introduces a new horn tweeter made of magnesium alloy, combined with natural cellulose membranes.
We have almost the entire Borea range for sale: the BR02, BR03, BR04 and BR05 bookshelf speakers, the BR08, BR09 and BR10 floorstanding models, the BRC1 and BRC2 centre speakers, the BRS1 surround speakers and the BRA01 pair of Atmos speakers, as well as the BR02 Connect and BR03 Connect active versions. Then there are the Comete Ez and Antal Ez, the Solstice 3, Solstice 8 and the Solstice C3 centre speaker, the S02 and S03 stand speakers and the Thetis 300, Thetis 340 and Tales 340 subwoofers. For listening without separate electronics there are the Capella 2, LN01A and LN05A active speakers, the AIO 3 and AIO Twin systems, the AIO C streamer, the AIO A50 Pro amplifier and the Lunar 1 and Lunar 3 turntables, developed with Pro-Ject.
The choice depends primarily on the environment and use. For a small or medium-sized room and a low-power amplifier, the BR03 or Comete EZ are the most balanced starting point; in larger rooms, it's best to move to a floorstanding model like the BR08 or Antal EZ, or to the Solstice 8, a three-way speaker that Triangle recommends for rooms up to about 50 square meters. Those looking for a complete system without separate components should start with the AIO Twin, which has onboard amplification and streaming, or a pair of Borea Connects; vinyl listeners can pair the Lunar 3, which has a built-in phono stage, with Capella active speakers. For home theater, the Borea series allows you to build a coherent system, from the front speakers to the Atmos speakers.
In our showroom in Carpi, you can listen to Triangle speakers in the listening room, compare models, and receive advice on matching them with your electronics. The same products can be ordered online at audiocostruzioni.com with shipping, asking us for advice first by email if necessary.

How to Choose Your First Turntable: A Practical Guide (2025)

Entering the world of vinyl today means facing a choice that seems more complicated than it should be. Between belt-drive and direct drive, moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, straight and curved tonearms, the risk is getting lost in technicalities before even…

Belt drive or direct drive: which one to start with?

The first distinction in the world of turntables is between belt-drive and direct-drive. In the former, an external motor moves the platter via an elastic belt; in the latter, the motor is integrated into the platter's spindle. The difference isn't superficial: it changes the way the record spins, and consequently the sound it produces.
