Klipsch Heresy I

Description

The Klipsch Heresy I represents one of the most successful interpretations of horn loading in a compact format. It is a three-way, highly efficient speaker, capable of performance that equals or exceeds systems of much larger dimensions. The midrange and high ranges are entirely horn-loaded , while the bass is entrusted to a direct-radiating woofer in a sealed enclosure.

The heart of the system is composed of three dedicated Klipsch transducers: the 31-inch K -22 woofer, the K-55-V mid-frequency driver mounted on the K-700 horn , and the K-77 tweeter . A Type E crossover filter splits the 700 Hz and 6000 Hz bands , for a rated frequency response of 50 to 17.000 Hz (±5 dB) and usable bass extension down to 45 Hz . The horns have a controlled dispersion pattern of 80° horizontally and 30° vertically.

The real distinguishing feature remains the sensitivity of 96 dB (1 W measured at 122 cm on axis): a value that places this speaker among the most efficient in its category. How many watts do you need for high-efficiency speakers like the Klipsch Heresy? Practically very few. The nominal load of 8 Ohms combined with the high sensitivity makes the Heresy the ideal match for low-power tube amplifiers , including single-ended triode (SET) configurations and small Class A power amplifiers , where even a few watts are enough to reach high sound pressure levels.

Designed for both professional use — halls, theaters, clubs, recording and broadcast monitors — and for home listening, the Heresy I combine low distortion and compact dimensions ( 54,3 × 39,5 × 33,4 cm ). Their small footprint makes them easy to place even in small and medium-sized rooms; to optimize the soundstage, an angle ( toe-in ) of approximately 45° towards the listening point is recommended, preferably with the speaker raised off the floor on a stand or dedicated base. The declared power capacity is 105 W (program).

A historic model no longer in production, these Klipsch Heresy Is are aimed at the used market and audiophile collectors: a recognized classic from the Hope, Arkansas, brand, sought after for the dynamic and immediate tone typical of horn designs. Finishes varied according to the catalog of the period (generally wood veneers): it is advisable to check the finish and condition of each individual example.

Klipsch's corporate philosophy is based on the fundamental principles established by its founder: maximum efficiency, minimum distortion, and controlled directional control. Paul Klipsch, an engineer and acoustic pioneer, developed the first prototypes in his home in Hope, Arkansas, with the goal of creating loudspeakers capable of reproducing live sound with absolute fidelity. missionThe company's motto has remained unchanged for over seventy years: "The sound closest to the original." This dedication to sonic purity has made Klipsch one of the most respected brands in the world of high fidelity, with a solid reputation among the most discerning audiophiles. The company combines traditional American craftsmanship with ongoing technological innovation, maintaining production of some flagship models in the United States while constantly investing in research and development to perfect its audio solutions.
Klipsch's signature technologies include the renowned Tractrix Horn Technology, a patented horn system that ensures uniform dispersion and reduced distortion. Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) optimizes transducer movement for more precise response, while Cerametallic technology represents the evolution of high-performance composite woofer cones. Injection Molded Graphite (IMG) characterizes the Reference Series tweeters, offering superior detail and dynamics. These proprietary innovations distinguish Klipsch products in the global high-fidelity landscape.
The Klipsch product line ranges from the Heritage Series floorstanding speakers, which retain their original vintage design, to the modern Reference Premiere bookshelf speakers. Klipsch's transistor integrated amplifiers are characterized by high power and precise control, ideal for effectively driving the company's loudspeakers. The tube integrated amplifier category offers solutions for lovers of warmer, more immersive analog sound.
The Heritage Series represents absolute excellence with iconic models such as the Klipsch Cornwall IV and Heresy IV, floorstanding speakers that use updated original horn technology. The Reference Premiere line includes floorstanding and bookshelf speakers with Cerametallic drivers and LTS tweeters, perfect for high-end stereo systems. The RP Series offers more affordable solutions while maintaining high technical performance. Floorstanding or bookshelf speakers: a guide to choosing

Imposing tower or compact bookshelf? It's the question every enthusiast asks at least once, and the answer is never obvious. The choice between floorstanding and bookshelf speakers depends on more than just budget or space...

Anatomy of a Tower: What Makes a Speaker Unique

A floorstanding speaker is built to stand alone, without the need for external supports. Its height—often between 80 and 120 centimeters—allows it to house multiple separate drivers: a tweeter for highs, a midrange driver for midrange, and one or more woofers for bass. This multi-way configuration offers more granular control over different portions of the sound spectrum.
