The Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 is the 700 Series standmount speaker designed for those who want full-scale sound even in large rooms, without having to resort to a floorstanding speaker. Compared to the 707 S3, it features a larger woofer/midrange driver, 165 mm instead of 130 mm. The result is a more extended low range and a wider soundstage.
The decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter was developed specifically for the 700 Series. It raises the break-up point to 47 kHz, exceeding the limits of the previous aluminum double dome. This translates into precise stereo imaging and clean high frequencies even at high volumes. The Continuum cone avoids the abrupt behavior transitions typical of traditional cones: vocals and acoustic instruments sound natural and free from coloration.
The curved front baffle and separate speaker enclosures are derived from the 800 Series Diamond and reduce cabinet resonances. The Flowport reflex port operates with low turbulence, so bass remains articulated even on the most demanding passages.
Which amplifier should I pair with the B&W 706 S3? With a sensitivity of 88 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, they're easy to drive: a good stereo integrated amplifier or a 30- to 120-watt power amplifier is sufficient. They work well in a music-focused stereo system and as front speakers in a home theater. For maximum performance, the manufacturer recommends the dedicated FS-700 S3 stand.

DAC stands for Digital-to-Analog Converter. Its job is to transform the bits of a music file (the zeros and ones of the digital world) into an analog electrical signal that the amplifier can amplify and the speakers can reproduce.
